Erin Hills Fund Raiser

As Fate Would Have It!

Milt Chase and his wife were dining out one evening and crossed paths with Rich Tock and his wife. Rich shared with us the good news that he had taken a new job as the President of Erin Hills. During the conversation Milt mentioned that he was involved in Habitat for Humanity and that recently they completed building four houses in Port Washington and were looking to begin another project. All that was needed was land, workers and a way to finance the next Habitat for Humanity Project. A month later Rich called Milt and inquired if he would be interested in a house located on Erin Hills Golf Course. The house needed to be moved off the Erin Hills Golf Course. Milt contacted John Orth, of Ozaukee Habitat for Humanity and they decided to meet with Rich the next day. In the meantime John contacted a house mover.

The next day Milt, John, Rich and the house mover crafted a “moving plan.”

Over the next few weeks the mover was hired and a new lot was purchased. The move over the fields of the Erin Hills golf course was quite a sight; the house arrived on the present lot in the Watercress Springs subdivision of Erin in August of 2010 with no damage except drywall joints.  The home was then positioned on the new foundation not long afterward.  The house has been painted inside and out, a new roof was put on the house to comply with the subdivisions code, and a new furnace with a life time warranty was installed.

Through a partnership with WE Energies Ozaukee Habitat for Humanity installed a new 1.6KW Solar PV electric generating system that includes an automatic two axis tracking system to follow the sun for optimum performance.

The final piece was to rebuild the deck which will be completed in Spring of 2011. The home is now for sale as a Habitat fund raiser and will yield sufficient funds to build 3 or 4 Habitat homes in Ozaukee County.

The home was sold in December 2011 and will allow us to purchase land and start a multi-home project in Port Washington in 2012.
